Building your self-esteem

Lets outline some necessary sub-topics

(1) What is self-esteem ?
(2) Why is self-esteem important ?
(3) How to improve your self-esteem.
(4) Must everyone be pleased about how I carry my self ?

What is self-esteem ?

Some people find in difficult to associate with others as a result of self-esteem. This occurs in three ways- we have low, high and good self-esteem. Low and High self-esteem are of disadvantages. It is advised to have a good self-esteem.

Self-esteem: it is the respect or admiration for one self , it is acknowledging ones potentials, beauty , quality, including importance to both your self and people around you e.g family, friends and neighbours. Low and high self-esteem can be very challenging. How ever many suffer more of low self-esteem.

Low self-esteem: i
t has to do with looking down on your self. Perhaps, because of your disabilities, past mistakes, faults, speech disaster - You don't know how to speak in public. It is however recognized that this makes a lot of people withdraw the best of them or to keep their potentials and what could earn them a lot of remarks and more to them self.

High self-esteem: it is on the other hand an opposite of low self-esteem. This brings about pride which could be tagged as "the down fall of a man". People who have self-esteem belittle others and their offer. As a result, their ego makes them lose a lot of good achievements. Those whit high self-esteem speak rudely to others and this is bad.

Good self-esteem: is the best advise to be portrayed by all. love your self, admire your self, but it must be at check. unlike people with low and high self-esteem, they do not blame them selves and others respectively when something goes wrong. They reason things out, see their role and the roles played by others. they easily forgive them selves and move on. looking down on people is not found in them , instead they create boundaries for all. where people think they are incapable they prove them wrong by believing in them selves, challenging them and working towards success instead of hiding a way like those with low self-esteem. Or feeling proud to ask for help like those with high self-esteem. Good self-esteem makes you know better and accept who you are, what you have and can give, what the future has to offer.

Why is Self-esteem very important ?

Good self-esteem is really necessary. How you view your self affects your daily activities or better still the way you live. Here are some important things about having a good self-esteem:

(a) Self-confidence: it prepares you towards facing challenges, crowed or discouragements as you believe in your self.

(b) Courage: it helps you to tame your fears and convert it to positive things that could be of assistance.

(c)  Self-acceptance: with good self-esteem, you accept the person you really are and fight to be better in future.

(d) Decision: it helps you in making decisions as you know your opinion counts.

(e) It helps one to resolve his/her issues by thinking straight and knowing who is at fault.

(f)  It helps you to forgive your self for the wrongs you have done, forget your mistakes and move on.

(g)  It helps one to live his/her life to the fullest as one doesn't let low self-esteem make people to toss you around or having the feelings that you are bad as a result of a high self-esteem.

(h) It helps one to speak up when pressured to do something bad or feeling cheated.

How to improve your self-esteem.

Despite the importance of a good self-esteem, it is still very challenging to most people especially teenagers and a few youths and adults to showcase good self-esteem.

Most teenagers feel their background- poor, chattered home, divorced parents-have made them not qualified to speak in the midst of other teenagers. Some have resolved to being introvert-or though some people are naturally that way. Most has developed bad habits like drinking, smoking and clubbing.

Some youths show high or low self-esteem as a result of fear emanating from crowd or past mistakes they also tend to develop bad habits.

To improve good self-esteem, here are some tips to follow:

(a) Identity why you are scared of speaking amidst others e.g why your stomach often sings, why you feel you would throw up or why you are nervous- is it the faces you see ? does it remind you of something ?.

(b) Confess the positive side of the challenge. For instance, you recognized it to be a result of your poor background, confess that you are rich and carry your self as one.

(c) If speaking is the problem- perhaps people laugh at you- next time, talk less, listen more to them, learn their usage of verbs, fix something together, meditate on it, take a deep breath and say it calmly. Don't rush as this could make you inter change one verb with another ( it wont take you more than three seconds )

(d) try to chip one or two things into the conversation and do it boldly ,do this once or twice.

(e) Try reading good books, study with dictionary, listen to goo radio and television stations, read good magazines and news papers, this will help to improve your speech.

(f) Talking to some you trust about it would help. It maybe a friend, teacher, uncle, aunt, parent etc who could offer help.

(g) Work towards accomplishing some boldness, you don't need to be perfect. You can do this by practicing in front of a mirror.

(h) Try hard not to compare your self with or envy others. Believe in your self, your shape and potential is fine. See your self as equal with others.

(i) Don't pick on your weaknesses, pick up skills and develop them.

(j) Forgive your self of your past mistakes and forge ahead. "Dream big".

(k) Set good goals that are SMART.

(l) Change what you can and live with those you can't.

(m) Stand firm on your decisions or opinions. You have to make them sometimes and seek healp when necessary.

(n) Renew your courage. You can speak to those around you ensuring you look into their eyes. This will help your boldness outside.

(o) Try as much to exercise your self this is necessary.

(p)  Learn to relieve your self of your burdens, have fun and rest.

(q) Pray often, listen to good musics ( you can also sing them )

(r) Enjoy seeing each morning. Be your self and accomplish your dreams each day.

I believe that this steps i have listed would help to build your self-esteem if you work towards them carefully.

MUST EVERYONE BE PLEASED ABOUT HOW I CARRY MY SELF ?

Well, this worries some people much. You might say "people complain about how I talk or even walk". Watch it ! You might not be doing it right. But sometimes, it is what you think that matters. So play cool, just make your self-esteem good and see the marvelous changes.
